Each year, the Ontario government recognizes forward-thinking producers, processors and organizations across the province through the Premier’s Awards for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence. In 2016, four companies that have been supported by Bioenterprise Corporation were among the honourees.
At an awards ceremony in Newmarket on November 7th, Agri-Neo was recognized for their innovative sanitizer aimed at seeds, nuts, spices and sprouted grains. By eliminating disease-causing microbes without changing the taste, texture or smell of the product, Agri-Neo is setting a new food safety standard for dry foods.
Later that week, three more companies supported by Bioenterprise took home awards from a similar ceremony in Guelph. Local Line was honoured for creating an online ordering platform that allows chefs to buy directly from local growers, helping put more Ontario food on restaurant menus.
Katan Kitchens earned kudos for developing a non-GMO quinoa seed suited to local growing conditions. Not only has Katan made it possible to produce one of the world’s most popular super foods here in Ontario, their variety boasts higher levels of protein, iron, magnesium, fibre and zinc than its South American counterpart.
