MaRS – Embedded Executive: How Katan Kitchens cultivated investor interest

I sat down with Jamie Draves, president and CEO of Katan Kitchens, and Ty Shattuck, managing director of Aethon Technologies, to talk about their experiences with the Embedded Executive program.

Ty was the embedded executive who joined the Katan Kitchens team for the duration of the program, which lasted six months. Katan Kitchens, a Georgetown, Ontario–based company, focuses on developing superfood products from local Ontario crops. Most recently, the company has been developing varieties of quinoa that are specifically conducive to Ontario’s soil conditions and climate. Due to quinoa’s nutritional profile and gluten-free properties, as well as the rise in popularity of natural food trends, the demand for the grain has increased five-fold over the last 10 years. Katan Kitchens is focused on driving production in the province, helping Ontario farmers produce one of the most nutritional products on the market.
