We love quinoa! It’s so versatile and it packs fantastic flavours and nutrients. Interestingly, there is also a lot of history packed in this little grain…

Quinoa, pronounced “Keen-wah”, originated in areas in Peru and Bolivia. Although its appearance resembles grains like rice or couscous, quinoa actually belongs to the same family as the sugar beet and spinach!

Boasting huge nutritional value and antioxidants, quinoa was a sacred grain in many ancient civilizations located in Bolivia, Chile, and Peru. The Incas, a population that resided in the mountains of Bolivia, called it the “mother of all grains” and held annual ceremonies where emperors would plant the first quinoa seeds of the year.
